Yeah, yeah, true. But Mokala market needs a 2000 year update. A good model would be the outdoor walking mall where I live in ATL – Atlantic station. It’s pedestrian with parks but the stores have AIR CONDITIONING. Plus from an architect’s standpoint a mall will be an economic generator (jobs/investment) and help spur urban INFRASTRUCTURE – like efficient water/sewage usage and maybe more electricity (unless they decide to be brilliant and go SOLAR)!

You know what's ironic about all this? The current trend in retail today is to make shopping centers appear to be a little more organic. So Accra's Mokala Market and Arts and Crafts Market are on the cutting edge of what Western retail designers are trying to emulate. I hope the mall in Ghana is accessable on the pedestrian level. It will be interesting to see how they decide to design the mall.

I have real problem with these shopping malls today. Last time I went to one on a Saturday in the middle of the day....there was no one there!!! We may be a little bit ahead of the game with some of the investment that's going on over there

Yea I'm sorry for not frequenting the blog either. It's just enough work for me to forget about it. Lazy I know, but I will get better Kwasi.

Anyway about the American Envoy in Africa. I think it's a great idea but you know it will focus on mostly East African countries that have close ties to terrorist groups ie Somalia. Even though Sudan is an East African country their government is Arabic but looked at as an ally to the US. Because the US needs more Arab governed allies. From what I understand it's the Arab lead government that's allowing these Arabic militia's to wipe out the indigenous people of Sudan to make it more Arabic friendly. The Arabic lead Sudanese government is spinning this genocide as a civil war (sound familiar.....Rhwanda, Iraq). Therefore, other countries won't step in and intervene. If my assessment is correct then this IS the next Rhwanda and five years from now as Americans we will be asking ourselves with our pathetic wide- dopey eyed expression, "How could we let this happen?!?"

hey holmes. i decided to email this since i haven't figured out how to blog yet.
after watching Teddy Koppel's program I remember that the US military has a new "Africa Command" and Africa Commander that leads all US forces in Africa. HOW DO you feel about this??

i'll keep it short - i think it's a great idea. there's too much turmoil and striff in Africa. however, i fear right now it's more for show or hypocritical. there are genocides happening in Africa and the US and Africa Command haven't done much (militarily) to stop it. they may have added in Liberia 2 years ago...What about Darfur now? Darfur 4 years ago? 8 years ago?
